2nd International Conference on Social Identity and Leadership and Followership (ICSILF)

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to submit your work to, or attend, the 2nd International Conference on Social Identity and Leadership and Followership (ICSILF), which will be held on May 31 – June 1, 2027, in Bad Homburg near Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The dates have been chosen deliberately so that colleagues attending the EAWOP Congress in Lyon (May 26–29, 2027) can travel on to Frankfurt afterward.

We hope this will be an inclusive, interdisciplinary meeting, and we therefore invite researchers across all academic levels and disciplines, including all fields of psychology as well as (behavioral) economics and other disciplines (e.g., political science, sports science, health science) who have an interest in social identity, leadership, and/or followership to participate. The program will consist mainly of short (15-minute) oral presentations and poster presentations, leaving ample room for discussion.

The conference is organized as a central part of the new Goethe Leadership Centre (GLC), a Centre for Advanced Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The GLC is led by Rolf van Dick (Psychology) and Michael Kosfeld (Economics), who will also act as the main organizers of ICSILF. Bridging psychology and economics, the Centre seeks to advance research on identity leadership as a group-oriented approach to addressing contemporary societal challenges by studying how leaders foster shared identities to promote cooperation, well-being, and resilience at the individual, organizational, and societal levels.

In line with the GLC’s mission, we particularly welcome contributions that engage with the core ideas of the Centre: refining the conceptual foundations of identity leadership (including its potential “dark side”), advancing methodological innovation beyond self-report measures (e.g., behavioral experiments and large-scale cross-cultural studies), and ensuring practical relevance (e.g., in domains such as polarization, mental health, climate action, or digital workplaces). We will select the papers and posters that contribute best to the overarching themes of social identity leadership and followership.

Key event details are summarized below. To be able to present your work at the meeting, please submit your abstract by January 15, 2027, using the following submission form:

and indicate whether you would like to give a short oral presentation (15 minutes) or present a poster. Posters will be featured in dedicated poster sessions in which each poster is introduced in a 5-minute presentation, so that all posters receive visibility. We will also award a prize for the best poster. For any inquiries, please contact us at contact@goethe-leadership.org.

We hope to see you in Frankfurt next spring!

Best regards,

Rolf van Dick and Michael Kosfeld (Goethe Leadership Centre), on behalf of the organizing team and scientific committee.
